Luz de Esperanza

The American British International Association has supported the Luz de Esperanza project, located in the Altiplano region of Bolivia, since 2000 with monthly donations. The project, run by Catholic nuns from the Corazon de Jesus congregation, provides shelter to more than 30 boys who otherwise would be living on the streets. With ABIA funds, Luz de Esperanza has been able to purchase equipment for construction of their facility, daily food for meal preparation, and tools for technical training.

Luz de Esperanza is part of a network of programs which includes Lucecita (a day care for small children), San Martin de Porres (a center for handicapped children), and a crafts workshop for single mothers.

ABIA funds, combined with support from other organizations, make it possible for the boys to receive added technical training which better prepares them for future employment possibilities. Training is available in computers, carpentry, animal husbandry, bread making, the growing of vegetables, painting, sewing, cooking, and arts and crafts.
