Who We Are

The American British International Association (ABIA) of La Paz is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1986 when the British Women of La Paz and the American Women’s Club merged. Both clubs had the same goals of promoting fellowship among their members through social and cultural activities, and performing charitable works to assist the less fortunate in the La Paz area.

Today, ABIA’s main purpose is to raise money for the benefit of groups or institutions in the areas of La Paz and El Alto. For more than ten years, ABIA has cooperated with programs such as Comedor Popular, Children's Hospital, The Awichas, and Luz de Esperanza.

Twice a year, ABIA hosts a popular two-day artisan fair in La Paz. Over 70 Bolivian artisans sell quality crafts and wares, including ceramics, alpaca knits, jewelry, gems, leather goods, pewter, silver and carved wooden items. The addition of gourmet international food, sponsored by embassies and organizations, has attracted more fair goers in recent years.

We thank all of our supporters for their contributions, both financial and volunteer.
